The High Court on Wednesday ordered Dr Muhammad Yunus to pay over Tk12 crore to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for evading taxes during the years 2011 to 2013, reports Daily Sun.
The bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir delivered the verdict after dismissing three separate applications filed by Yunus challenging the tax liability imposed on the money gifted by him to the trusts.
After hearing the three petitions, the HC in 2017 granted the stay and questioned the legality of NBR’s claim.
NBR claimed that Tk 1,100 crores should be taxable as they were other sources of income for the two companies.
