The consumer rights authorities have highly appreciated Bashundhara Group for its efforts to keep prices of essential commodities stable during Ramadan as the country’s largest industrial conglomerate has launched a campaign to sell different items at fair prices.

“Prices of commodities go down during a festival time worldwide. Bashundhara Group has set such an example in the country so that people can buy their desired essential items at a reasonable price,” AHM Shafiquzzaman, director general of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), told the Daily Sun on Thursday.

Bashundhara Food and Beverage Industries Limited (BFBIL) started selling oil, flour, spice and 20 other essential items at lower prices.

Prices of essentials marked a sharp rise just before Ramadan, causing sufferings for low-income people.

The BFBIL has launched the sale of commodities at fair prices across the country, marking Ramadan. Necessary products will be sold on two trucks in the capital and eight trucks across eight divisions.

DNCRP Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman inaugurated the campaign in front of the TCB Bhaban at Karwan Bazar in the capital as the chief guest.

The DNCRP chief thinks companies like Bashundhara Group should continue the campaign for the people even after the holy month of Ramadan.

“We’ve called upon the industries to run open sales of commodities during Ramadan. Bashundhara Group has immediately responded to the call to keep the prices of commodities stable. The initiative will help the low-income people get products at reasonable rates. I appreciate the initiative of the conglomerate,” added.

DNCRP Director Manjur Mohammad Shahriar was also present on the occasion.

At another spot in the capital, Additional Commerce Secretary Ruhul Amin announced the inauguration of the sales initiative in front of the Secretariat.

Joint secretaries Daud Islam and Mirajul Islam Ukil and assistant controller Rifat Chowdhury were present.

BFBIL divisional head Redhwanur Rahman said apart from corporate activities, Bashundhara Group has been working for the welfare of the people and the country. “In its continuation, Bashundhara Group has come forward to serve the consumers by selling products at reasonable prices. We’ve planned to conduct this programme throughout the year,” he told the Daily Sun.

BFBIL trucks with essential commodities are available in Karwan Bazar and Secretariat areas in Dhaka, Oxygen crossing in Chattogram, Bandar area in Sylhet, Satmatha in Bogura, Gallamari in Khulna, Chaumatha in Barishal, Town Hall in Mymensingh, Chattipatti mosque in Cumilla and Chawk Bazar in Faridpur.

The sale opens at 10:00am and continues till the end of stocks every day during Ramadan.
