Election Commissioner (EC) Begum Rasheda Sultana on Thursday said the country’s people have doubts about the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as they think their votes go another symbol they cast through EVMs.
“We are working on EVMs for the last six months. Neither technical team nor political parties have found out the faults on EVMs.”
He said the election commission is working to hold a free, fair, competitive and participatory election where voters can cast their votes safely and elect their representatives.
Rasheda Sultana came up with the observation while addressing a discussion on zilla parishad election at Rangpur Circuit House in the afternoon as the chief guest.
She said as the number of voters in the zilla parishad polls is poor, there is no need to install CCTV cameras. However, CCTV cameras will be installed in the union parishad, municipality, upazila and national elections to make these neutral.
The election commissioner said that the environment in Rangpur is suitable and upcoming Rangpur City Corporation election will be held in due time.
