Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said we are preparing for the 13th National Parliament elections in full swing and we are trying with all our efforts.
He said this at a program organized at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon in the capital on Monday.
The CEC said, “We have started preparations in full swing. The government has said that the elections will be held by December or June next year. It cannot be held in June. If it is done, it may have to be done in April. However, we are preparing for it keeping in mind the minimum time.”
He said, “The government has formed a consensus commission, whose term is six months. So if there are minimum reforms, then the elections will have to be held in December. And if it is done in December, the schedule will have to be announced in October. Now we have to make other preparations including the voter list.”
He also said, “If the voter list is not done properly, then the ‘dead’ voters will come out of the grave and vote as before. So far, about 17 lakh dead voters have been excluded from the list. This number will increase further.”
The CEC said, "Along with the voter list, we are making other preparations. Many applications have been received to change the demarcation of the constituencies. We have already proposed to the government to amend the law. Even if there is no reform commission now, we would have to make at least minimum reforms. Be it registering political parties or delimiting the boundaries. We are trying our best."
