Police detained two smugglers along with 15 kg of silver worth Tk 12 lakh at Karamdi Matpara area on Bamandi-Tentulbaria road in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Thursday.
The detainees are Akash, 32, son of Abdul Mannan and Rana Ahmed, 34, son of Shawkat Ali.
Acting on a tip-off that some criminals are going to border to smuggle silver, police set up a check post at Karamdi Matpara area on Bamandi-Tentulbaria road. At one stage, they stopped a motorcycle for checking but one of the three riders of the vehicle fled away. Later, the police conducted a search and seized 15 kg of silver from their possession, said Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Razzak.
The arrestees were sent to Meherpur jail through the court after filing a case under the Special Powers Act, he said.
