Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman said the government wants to ensure 10 per cent of the country's total electricity supply from nuclear power which requires more nuclear power plant to fulfill.
“No new plant will be made unless the under-construction Rooppur nuclear power plant is 100 per cent completed,” he said.
Currently, the Science and Technology Minister is in Vienna, Austria to attend the 66th General Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He made the remarks there while speaking to media.
Talking about making new nuclear plant the minister said, “It is not possible now. The project will be implemented in the coming days by accumulating the experience of Rooppur.”
“We don’t enough manpower to work in a nuclear plant construction. This is a huge project. We knew our ability by working in Rooppur nuclear power plant and I don't think it would be very logical for us to build another plant before it's finished,” he added.
However, Yeafesh Osman also said that the government has formulated a plan for energy.
He said we have done our energy planning. In the session, I saw that some of the representatives from different countries of the world said that they also want to go to 10 per cent in nuclear power.
“10 per cent of our energy will come from nuclear and if 10 per cent of the fuel is to come from nuclear, more nuclear power plants will have to be built,” he said.
