Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 10 gold bars weighing 1.233 kg worth around Tk one crore and detained a youth at the Sharsha border in Jashore on Tuesday.
The detainee is Shakib Hossain, 19, son of late Kalam Hosain of Goga village under the upazila.
Khulna-21 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Tanvir Rahman said acting on a tip-off, members of the paramilitary force conducted a drive at Rudrapur frontier at noon and detained Shakib with the gold bars kept in a sack of urea fertilizer while being smuggled to India.
A smuggling case was lodged in this connection and the detainee was handed over to Sharsha Police Station, he added.
