A mild heat wave is sweeping over Sylhet division and it may continue and the day temperature may rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius over the southern part.
Besides, light to moderate rain accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur in many parts across the country, said the weather department on Saturday.
According to the latest weather bulletin of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), light to moderate rain or showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barishal, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country.
The depression over Northwest Bay intensified into a deep depression over Northwest Bay and adjoining areas. It then moved west-northwestwards and crossed the West Bengal-North Odisha coast and now lies over South Jharkhand and adjoining areas of India as a land deep depression.
It is likely to move northwestwards and weaken gradually. Under its influence steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay.
The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Horyana, Uttar Pradesh, the centre of the deep depression, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the central part of Bangladesh.
Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over North Bay, said the bulletin.
The day temperature may rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius over the southern part and it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere over the country. Night temperature may also remain nearly unchanged.
The country's maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 36.5 degrees Celsius in Sylhet and the minimum temperature was 24.8 degrees Celsius in Teknaf of Chattogram.
The met office said the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours (Till 6 am Saturday) was recorded at 50mm in Mongla of Bagerhat.
The sun sets at 6:28 pm today (Saturday) and rises at 5:36 am tomorrow (Sunday) in Dhaka.
