The United States and Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to a ceasefire in Gaza and efforts to secure the release of hostages, including American citizens. Talks also focused on regional stability, economic ties, and defense cooperation, according to a press statement.
The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the ceasefire in Gaza, during their meeting in Riyadh on Monday. Rubio underscored the need for a long-term arrangement for Gaza that would contribute to regional security.
The meeting also marked the 80th anniversary of the 1945 talks between President Franklin Roosevelt and King Abdulaziz aboard the USS Quincy, with Rubio highlighting the enduring strength of US-Saudi relations. He expressed a commitment to expanding economic and defense cooperation between the two nations.
Bin Salman and Rubio’s discussions extended to broader regional concerns, including stability in Syria and Lebanon, as well as Red Sea security and freedom of navigation.
