During a phone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Russian President Vladimir Putin commended mediation efforts by Egypt and other countries that paved the way to a deal between Israel and Hamas, the Kremlin press service said.
The leaders of Russia and Egypt have "discussed the situation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone in the context of the latest agreement between Israel and the Hamas movement," the Kremlin press service said in a statement.
"In this regard, Vladimir Putin spoke highly of mediation efforts by Egypt and a number of other countries," the statement says.
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on January 15 that thanks to the mediatory efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages held in the enclave.
