Egypt is intensifying its efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, prioritizing the release of hostages, the facilitation of humanitarian aid, and an end to the ongoing conflict. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed these critical issues with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during talks on Saturday (Washington local time).
The discussions underscored the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza while also focusing on broader regional challenges, including the situation in Syria. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to mediating peace and stability in the region, a role it has consistently played in Middle Eastern affairs.
U.S. State Department’s spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that Blinken reaffirmed U.S. support for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition toward a representative and accountable government. Blinken also expressed appreciation for Egypt’s active role in promoting peace and highlighted the importance of the U.S.-Egypt strategic partnership in addressing shared challenges.
The talks reflect Egypt’s determination to broker a resolution to the Gaza conflict while contributing to broader regional stability. Both leaders agreed on the need for continued collaboration to mitigate crises and advance long-term peace efforts in the Middle East.
