U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken held a phone call with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to address key global issues. The two leaders focused on the ongoing situation in Syria, highlighting the principles that the United States and regional countries believe should guide the country's transition process and the formation of a new government. Secretary Blinken reaffirmed U.S. support for a Syrian government that is both accountable and representative, chosen by the Syrian people, said a joint statement.
On Gaza, Blinken and Lammy underscored the urgency of finalizing a ceasefire agreement that facilitates the immediate release of all hostages, stressing the need for swift action to avoid further delays.
The call also covered the situation in Somalia, with both leaders stressing the importance of finalizing a UN Security Council-approved African Union-led mission to combat al-Shabaab and enhance security in East Africa.
Finally, Blinken and Lammy addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with Blinken emphasizing the need for increased security assistance following Russia’s decision to recruit soldiers from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to continue its brutal war of aggression.
