Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated on Friday that military force and arrogance cannot deliver security or stability to Israel or the broader region. Speaking during a joint press conference with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, Abdelatty highlighted key outcomes from the fourth round of the Egypt-China strategic dialogue, as reported by the Egyptian state news agency.
Abdelatty emphasized the urgent need for a cease-fire in Gaza, unrestricted humanitarian and medical aid access, and progress toward establishing an independent Palestinian state in line with UN resolutions. “Military force and arrogance will not bring security and stability to Israel or the region,” he reiterated.
He further asserted that true stability requires restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of a state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On Syria, the Egyptian foreign minister addressed discussions with his Chinese counterpart regarding recent developments following the ousting of Bashar Assad’s regime. He stressed the need for an inclusive political process that respects Syria’s ethnic, religious, and sectarian diversity, safeguards minority rights, and ensures the participation of all political forces in managing the country’s transition.
Abdelatty also condemned Israeli military actions in Syria, labeling them a “flagrant violation of international law.”
The Gaza conflict remains a focal point of international concern. Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza, which followed a Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, have resulted in over 44,800 casualties, predominantly women and children. Abdelatty condemned these actions, highlighting Israel’s mounting international legal challenges.
The International Criminal Court recently issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Simultaneously, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice regarding its actions in the territory.
