Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake departed for India Sunday afternoon, marking his first official overseas visit since assuming office, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD), as reported by the Daily Mirror.
This visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and foster greater cooperation in trade, security, and cultural exchange.
The visit, scheduled from December 15 to 17, is taking place at the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu. During his trip, President Dissanayake will engage in high-level discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on key bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
The President’s itinerary includes meetings with Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, among other senior officials.
In addition to political engagements, President Dissanayake will participate in a business forum in New Delhi aimed at boosting trade and investment ties between Sri Lanka and India.
The visit will also feature a stop at Bodh Gaya, a site of profound spiritual and cultural significance, underscoring the shared heritage between the two nations.
Accompanying the President are senior government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath, and Minister of Labour and Deputy Economic Development Prof. Anil Jayanta Fernando.
