US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken held a phone conversation on Friday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss the ongoing situation in Syria. During the call, Blinken underscored the importance of safeguarding civilians, including minority groups, amid the continuing conflict. The Secretary reaffirmed the US commitment to a political resolution of the Syrian crisis, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, which calls for a negotiated settlement to the civil war, reads a statement.
Secretary Blinken also extended his congratulations to Foreign Minister Fidan on the appointment of Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioglu as the new Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), expressing hope for enhanced collaboration between the US and Turkey in addressing regional challenges.
The conversation highlights continued diplomatic engagement between the US and Turkey as both nations seek to address complex issues related to Syria’s future and broader regional stability.
