The White House on Friday announced that US President Biden will host a summit next month to embattle the kind of hate-triggered attacks that have surfaced in some cities around the country in recent times, reports The Washington Post.
Biden would deliver the keynote address at the September 15 ‘United We Stand’ Summit, said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a statement.
Advocates pushed Biden to hold the event after 10 Black people were killed at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, in May, aiming as well to address hate-motivated violence in cities including El Paso, Texas, Pittsburgh and Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
“As President Biden said in Buffalo after the horrific mass shooting earlier this year, in the battle for the soul of our nation, ‘We must all enlist in this great cause of America,’” Karine Jean-Pierre said.
