Renowned economist Dr. Atiur Rahman has been nominated for the prestigious Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal for his outstanding contributions to socioeconomic development and the economy of the country.
Unnayan Shamannay, a non-government think tank established by Dr. Rahman has expressed gratitude to Dhaka Ahsania Mission for nominating their founder chairperson for this prestigious award, said a press release.
The award after the name of Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah, founder of Dhaka Ahsania Mission will be officially handed over to Atiur Rahman immediately, it added.
British-Bangladeshi physiotherapist Valerie Ann Taylor was conferred with the award in 2008, economist Khondker Ibrahim Khaled in 2009, Prof Abdul Malik in 2010, Prof Jamilur Reza Chowdhury in 2012, Prof Rehman Sobhan in 2016 and Prof Anisuzzaman in 2018.
Dr. Atiur is currently serving as the Emeritus Prof of the Development Studies Department and chairman of the executive committee of the Center for Advanced Research on Arts and Social Sciences at Dhaka University (DU).
Previously Prof Atiur Rahman served as Bangabandhu Chair Prof at the DU.
He is one of the senior fellows at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS).
