Meat, eggs, and milk will be sold at affordable prices at 25 locations in the capital during the holy month of Ramadan, reports UNB.
Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter disclosed this at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Monday.
The press briefing highlighted the ministry’s preparations for Ramadan and reviewed its progress over the past six months.
Farida Akhter said steps have been taken to ensure enough supply and keep prices of meat, eggs, and milk stable during Ramadan.
Sale of dressed broiler chicken, eggs, pasteurized milk, and beef will continue in Dhaka from the 1st to the 28th of Ramadan and broiler chicken, eggs, pasteurized milk, beef, and mutton will be sold nationwide at affordable prices, she said.
Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC), Bangladesh Dairy and Fattening Farmers Association (BDFFA), dairy processing companies, and marginal farmers will provide support, she added.
The sale campaign will be inaugurated on February 28 at 10:30 am on Siraj Mia Memorial Model School premises in South Baridhara Residential Area (DIT Project).
The prices for the products were set as follows: dressed broiler chicken at Tk 250 per kg, pasteurised milk at Tk 80 per litre, eggs at Tk 114 per dozen, and beef at Tk 650 per kg.
The Adviser said 25 locations in Dhaka were selected based on active public participation in July movement and areas with slum dwellers.
The 25 locations Abdul Gani Road (near Secretariat), Farmgate (Khamarbari), Mirpur (60 Feet Road), Azimpur Maternity Hospital, Naya Bazar (Old Dhaka), Banasree, Hazaribagh, Arambagh (Motijheel), Babar Road (Mohammadpur), Kalshi (Mirpur), Jatrabari (Manik Nagar), Shahjadpur (Badda), Korail slum (Banani), Kamrangirchar, Khilgaon (South Railway Crossing), Nakhla para (Lukas Mor), Segun Bagicha (Kitchen Market), Bosila (Mohammadpur), Uttara (House Building), Rampura (Market), Mirpur 10, Kalyanpur (Jhilpar), Tejgaon, Bongobazar (Old Dhaka), and Kakrail.
Estimated daily sales will be 60,000 eggs, 6,000 liters of pasteurised milk, 2,000 kg of dressed broiler chicken, and 2,000-2,500 kg of beef.
