Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) has announced plans of installing QR code as an alternative to the single-journey metro tickets.
DMTCL has revealed its plan Tuesday night on verified Facebook page while apologizing to passengers for the inconvenience regarding tickets.
Seeking apology for the “temporary inconvenience”, the authority said in the post: “Due to the increase in the number of passenger, it takes more time issuing single-journey tickets.”
The post explained the reason behind the problem, saying: “Additionally, many passengers have failed to return the tickets after their journeys, leading to a shortage and rendering some tickets unusable.”
The authority informed that they are recollecting single-journey tickets on a priority basis to tackle the problem.
Replacing the cards, the DMTCL is going to install QR codes, the post reads: “Travel arrangements underway to install QR code as an alternative method.”
To address these issues, the DMTCL is expediting the procurement of additional single-journey tickets and simultaneously exploring the implementation of a QR code system as an alternative.
Authority hoped that the situation will improve by the end of the year.
