In a significant step towards enhancing medical research and pharmaceutical advancements, the North South University Pharmaceutical Sciences Department hosted a seminar on "Innovations in Drug Discovery: From Cancer to Infectious Diseases" on December 5, 2024, where the latest breakthroughs and future directions in drug discovery were discussed.
The seminar featured Professor Dr. Khondoker Miraz Rahman from the School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Sciences, King's College London, UK, and Antimicrobial Research Theme lead at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, as the keynote speaker. He is also the Director of the Doctoral Training Programme in the Industrial Case Training Programme (largest industrial case training programme in UK).
Professor Dr. Khondoker Miraz Rahman shared insights from his extensive research work and emphasized the critical need for innovative approaches in dealing with both cancerous and infectious diseases. He talked about the challenges during completing his PhD. Later on he talked about his extensive research in Antibody Drug Conjugated cancer therapy. He specifically emphasized that “ It is important to develop a drug that is not toxic for the body and doesn't get involved with cardiac health”.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Hossain Shahriar, Chairman of the North South Pharmaceutical Department, underscored the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry.
The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of North South University,Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury graced the stage with his presence. Pro Vice Chancellor of North South University Professor Abdur Rob khan also delighted the afternoon with his inspiring statement. He added , “ No matter where you will start you will reach your place. Without mentors you will not be able to reach."
The seminar also included an interactive question-and-answer session where students had the opportunity to engage with the speaker.
