Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov has offered to purchase the French crown jewels stolen in a recent heist at the Louvre Museum and donate them to the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The theft took place on Sunday, when four individuals broke into the Paris landmark in broad daylight, stealing eight royal artifacts, including a 19th-century tiara, earrings, and necklaces.
“Happy to buy the stolen jewelry and donate it back to the Louvre. I mean Louvre Abu Dhabi, of course—no one steals from Louvre Abu Dhabi,” Durov wrote Tuesday on X. The Russian-born entrepreneur, who lives in Dubai, emphasized the security and prestige of the UAE-based museum.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi, located on Saadiyat Island, opened in 2017 as a cultural partnership between France and the United Arab Emirates.
Durov also criticized the state of affairs in France, writing: “It’s another sad sign of the decline of a once-great country, where the government has perfected the art of distracting people with phantom threats instead of confronting the real ones.”
Not at all surprised by the Louvre heist. It’s another sad sign of the decline of a once great country — where the government has perfected the art of distracting people with phantom threats instead of confronting the real ones.

Durov has had previous tensions with French authorities. In 2024, he was briefly detained at a Paris airport over accusations of failing to remove illegal content from Telegram, a charge he denies. He has also accused the French government of attempting to impose political censorship on the platform.
