South Africa secured a massive win by 229 runs against defending champion England in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday.
Targeting 400 runs, England posted only 170 runs in 22 overs by losing all wickets.
This is the biggest defeat of England in the ongoing World Cup.
Making a new record, England bowler Mark Wood scored the highest 43 runs off 17 balls while another bowler Gus Atkinson scored the second highest 35 runs off 21 balls.
All batters including the top and middle order have failed to score due to the brilliant bowling of South Africa.
Gerald Coetzee bagged 3 wickets while Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen got 2 wickets each.
Earlier in the first innings, South Africa scored 399 runs in 50 overs by losing 7 wickets.
Middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen smashed 109 runs off 67 balls while opener Reeza Hendricks scored 85 runs off 75 balls and Marco Jansen scored 75 runs off 42 balls.
England bowler Reece Topley bagged 3 wickets while Gus Atkinson and Adil Rashid got 2 wickets each.
England won the toss and opted to bowl first.
