The asset statements of the Chief Adviser of the interim government and all other advisers have been published, including information on both spouses. Over the past year, the assets of 19 advisers, including the Chief Adviser, have increased, while three advisers have seen a decline in their wealth.
The disclosures show that Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan recorded the highest increase in assets, rising by Tk15,477,262 (over Tk1.54 crore).
The smallest increase was reported by former Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam, whose assets grew by Tk856,779.
Meanwhile, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma saw a decline in their assets.
The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification on Tuesday publishing the asset statements of advisers and individuals of equivalent rank, covering the period from June 30, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
According to the disclosure, Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus had total net assets of Tk156,244,065 as of June 30, 2025, compared to Tk140,139,673 a year earlier—an increase of Tk16,104,392 over the year. He attributed the increase to encashment of savings certificates, growth in savings and fixed deposits, and shares received through inheritance.
His wife, Afrozi Yunus, has total net assets of Tk12,763,360, down from Tk21,177,274 the previous fiscal year—a decrease of Tk8,413,914. Under income tax law, net assets refer to the total of a taxpayer’s movable and immovable, financial and capital assets.
Dr. Yunus’s financial assets amount to Tk147,664,401, up from Tk131,871,433 a year earlier. His non-financial assets stand at Tk2,106,250, slightly up from Tk2,092,500. He also holds foreign assets worth Tk6,473,414, compared to Tk6,175,740 last year.
According to National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials, the definition of personal assets was aligned with international standards during the enactment of the 2023 Income Tax Act. Financial assets include cash, bank deposits, savings certificates, shares, and dividends, while non-financial assets include land, houses, apartments, plots, and other immovable property.
Afrozi Yunus holds financial assets worth Tk451,860, down from Tk9,541,679 a year ago, and non-financial assets worth Tk12,311,500, up from Tk11,635,595. She has no foreign assets but carries liabilities of Tk1,696,000, while Dr. Yunus has no liabilities.
Among other advisers, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed’s assets increased by Tk565,308; Wahiduddin Mahmud’s by Tk11,382,381; Dr. Asif Nazrul’s by Tk1,287,799; and Touhid Hossain’s by Tk624,549. Home Adviser Jahangir Alam’s assets rose by Tk1,554,899; Adilur Rahman Khan’s by Tk15,477,262; Ali Imam Majumder’s by Tk5,182,574; CR Abrar’s by Tk5,542,254; Fawzul Kabir Khan’s by Tk2,534,940; Faruk-e-Azam’s by Tk2,543,765; Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain’s by Tk2,613,337; Nurjahan Begum’s by Tk409,837; Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder’s by Tk13,627,348; Farida Akhter’s by Tk2,096,131; Sharmeen S. Murshid’s by Tk2,855,443; Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain’s by Tk2,576,328; Sheikh Bashiruddin’s by Tk5,412,053; and Mahfuz Alam’s by Tk856,779. Chief Adviser’s Special Assistants (with adviser rank) Abdul Hafiz and Dr. Khalilur Rahman saw increases of Tk8,461,828 and Tk200,000 respectively.
However, Syeda Rizwana Hasan’s total assets declined from Tk22,565,055 in June 2024 to Tk11,272,924 in June 2025—a decrease of Tk11,292,131. Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s assets fell from Tk22,692,026 to Tk21,518,026, down Tk1,174,000. Supradip Chakma’s assets decreased from Tk12,633,141 to Tk10,998,796, a reduction of Tk1,634,345. Asset details of Asif Mahmud were not published as he does not have a Tax Identification Number (TIN).
In a national address on August 25, 2024, the Chief Adviser emphasized a firm stance against corruption and announced that all advisers would promptly disclose their asset statements, with plans to make such disclosures mandatory for all government officials. He also mentioned issuing an ordinance to appoint an Ombudsman as pledged under Article 77 of the Constitution.
On October 1, 2024, the “Policy on Disclosure of Income and Asset Statements of Advisers and Persons of Equivalent Rank of the Interim Government, 2024” was issued. It requires advisers and equivalent officials to submit their income and asset statements to the Chief Adviser through the Cabinet Division within 15 working days after the deadline for filing income tax returns each year, including separate disclosures for spouses if applicable. The Chief Adviser may then publish the information at his discretion. The delay in publication had drawn criticism, but the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated on Monday that the disclosures would be made public within a few days.
