Tarique Rahman now main target of anti-democratic forces

BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman is now the main target of the conspirators, especially the anti-democratic forces, who are hatching conspiracies at home and abroad to stop transitioning the country to democracy through holding a free, fair and credible parliamentary election in Bangladesh.

It is being noticed that, whenever any situation is created in the country in any issue, the conspirators under the shadow of a few political parties and organisations, those are afraid of being defeated in a free and fair election, are targeting the BNP acting chairman for his popularity.

It seems that Tarique Rahman’s dream to rebuild the country with the slogan ‘Bangladesh First’ is one of the main reasons behind the conspiracy against him as well as his party. The few parties out of serious jealousy and envy are applying evil tactics to tarnish his image to affect him.

With the aim of defeating him through tarnishing his image, the conspirators are spreading propaganda, misleading people with false and fabricated information and linking him to the incidents that are not linked to his responsibility.

At the same time, the conspirators are also creating issues to affect him.

In the latest development, it has been noticed that the supporters of two Islamist political parties and a newly formed political party in the name of protest against the Mitford killing incident has spread serious propaganda against Tarique Rahman, while the BNP took instant stern actions against some of its party men by removing them from the party for lifetime, without carrying out any investigation.

The small number of political parties is also bringing out processions at different points of the capital, including in some educational institutions, chanted indecent slogans mentioning the name of Tarique Rahman, which is definitely out of political and social norms. It reveals the protest is staged with a specific political agenda.

At the same time, the evil quarter also spread propaganda in social media in different issues to tarnish the image of the BNP acting chairman who has been leading his party, staying in London.

Tarique Rahman has gained much popularity in the country for his role for the country, its people and democracy. He played a great role in fighting against fascism and autocracy for around the last 15 years and finally played a vital role in the student-led mass uprising that ousted the fascist Awami League and its chief, autocratic Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, from power.

His works proved that in his characteristic feature, he is very much serious about peace, stability and democracy in the country. He is always a hardliner with regard to taking actions against the party men who have indulged in any misdeeds. He also always handles the unruly party men with a strong hand.

In the post-uprising turmoil in the country, with the strong directive of Tarique Rahman, his party leaders, activists and supporters remained alert to prevent any further anarchic situation in the country. At the same time, he also alerted his party men not to be involved in anarchy and violent activities.

Not only that, Tarique Rahman always maintains a tougher stand against any misdeeds of his party men as he takes instant action whenever he gets a report of involvement of any of his party men in any criminal or controversial activities.

Addressing the recent triennial council of the Patuakhali district unit BNP virtually from London, Tarique Rahman asked the BNP leaders and activists not to do anything that could affect the party’s image.

“If you do something that people dislike, every leader and activist--even the party itself --will have to bear its negative impact. That’s why I urge every leader and activist in all 64 districts of Bangladesh not to indulge in any activities that may cause public resentment against us,” he said.

The BNP acting chairman further asked party men at all levels to win public trust through their good work and positive behaviour and called to practice tolerance and respect different opinions. “If the administration seeks cooperation, BNP leaders and activists must assist in maintaining law and order and peace in their respective areas.”

Tarique Rahman is always showing zero tolerance to any misdeed of the party leaders and activists by taking organisational and legal action. Already the party served show-cause notices to several thousands of its men, removed over one thousand men from the party for lifetime and filed several cases in allegation of criminal activities.

Unfortunately, the party is showing sincerity, but the interim government is showing weakness in controlling the law and order situation of the country, while the criminals are almost uninterruptedly committing crimes.

The rivals of the BNP are seriously unhappy with Tarique Rahman as he has been raising voice for holding a free, fair and acceptable national election to shift the country to democracy for which the country’s people  as well as the antifascist political parties have been struggling for around 17 years.

On the other hand, few parties, especially Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh and National Citizen Party (NCP), are saying that they will not allow holding any election without reform and July Charter but there are differences of opinion on various issues of state reform.

These parties are also demanding the national election in a proportional representation (PR) system and local government election ahead of if, which will naturally delay the national election. But the BNP is demanding parliamentary elections saying that the elected parliament will implement reform and hold the local government polls. In this conspiracy, the cohorts of the defeated fascist are also contributing.

Earlier, during the 1/11 changeover, due to his rising popularity, Tarique Rahman was seriously affected by antidemocratic forces while they spread various propaganda against him. But finally he was proved “innocent” in the court as he has been acquitted from the cases. At the same time, no allegation raised against him is proved.

Now the popularity of Tarique Rahman seems to be his main enemy as the conspirators this time also have become active. Having failed to face him politically, through voting, the undemocratic forces are active against him and spreading propaganda to tarnish his image. BNP has to be careful about this and remain vigilant to prevent any conspiracy against Tarique Rahman who is not only the leader of the party but also an asset of the country and essential for rebuilding a new Bangladesh to take it to a better future.
