The opposition leader of the parliament and the president of the Jatiya Party, Begum Raushan Ershad seeks to form a coalition with the Awami League in the upcoming parliamentary elections, aiming for 110 seats.
On September 11th, a list of 110 seats was sent to the Prime Minister's Office. Earlier, on August 19th, Raushan Ershad held talks with Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban. She has already announced her intention to participate in the upcoming elections as per the constitution. The party is facing pressure from most senior leaders to stay with the government.
Senior leaders of the party said, Jatiya Party will participate all 300 seats in the upcoming parliamentary election. They are observing the situation. Overall situation within the party is not very clear now.
A leader from the party who was present while Raushan’s direct talk with the Prime Minister said to Bangladesh Pratidin, “The Prime Minister has told Raushan Ershad that capable candidates who can win the election through competition should be nominated. We have submitted a list of 110 names now, and later, a shorter list will be provided. The final list may include some names not present in this list.”
