The short film "Nidrasur," (The Sleep Demon) revolves around the restlessness and mental struggles of a sleepless man. Based on a story by Jahangir Hossain Apon, the film is directed by Sohel Rana Boyati.
The film highlights the widespread battle for restful sleep. Many people, despite trying earnestly, are unable to sleep due to various factors, which leads to emotional and physical distress, turning life into a constant struggle. Nidrasur captures the experience of one such person facing the torment of insomnia.
The character of this sleepless man is played by Omar Malik. The cast also includes Runa Khan, Md Iqbal Hossain, Sanchita Dutta, Ashiq Sarkar, and Kakon Chowdhury, among others.
Speaking about the film in a press release, actor Omar Malik said, “I’ve known director Bayati for a long time. I’ve always liked his work. Though we had discussed working together many times, it never materialized. But the story of ‘Nidrasur’ intrigued me so much that I overcame all challenges to complete this project. I hope ‘Nidrasur’ will win hearts at film festivals both at home and abroad.”
Director Bayati said, “I began my career with short films. After a long time, making another short film brought me great joy. The production company has informed me that after completing the censor and other formalities, preparations are underway to submit ‘Nidrasur’ to both local and international film festivals.”
