Nearly two decades after Awarapan became a cult classic, Emraan Hashmi is set to reprise his iconic role in the much-anticipated sequel, Awarapan 2. The film has officially gone on floors in Bangkok, marking the beginning of its first shooting schedule.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui, the sequel stars Emraan Hashmi alongside Disha Patani in the lead roles. Awarapan 2 is being produced by Vishesh Bhatt under the banner of Vishesh Films, reigniting a beloved franchise after 19 years.
The sequel was greenlit after years of fan requests, with audiences keeping the original’s music and character alive long after its 2007 release.
Emraan and producer Vishesh Bhatt expressed excitement about bringing the next chapter to life, with the announcement itself doubling up as a special birthday surprise for the actor.
On September 29, Emraan Hashmi, Vishesh and others shared a joint post announcing the commencement of the highly-anticipated project.
The original Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, starred Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, and Mrinalini Sharma, and was remembered for its intense storyline, soulful music, and Emraan’s performance. However, despite critical appreciation, the film did not do well at the box office at the time. Over the years, though, it has gained a loyal audience and is often referred to as an underrated gem of Hindi cinema. Songs like Toh Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta continue to be favorites among music lovers.
Like its predecessor, 'Awarapan 2' promises a mix of high-octane action, emotional storytelling, and a stirring soundtrack – the hallmarks of Vishesh Films’ long-standing collaborations with Emraan, which include titles like 'Murder', 'Raaz', 'Jannat', and 'Gangster'.
The film is set to carry Shivam’s journey forward, balancing nostalgia with a fresh storyline. Fans won’t have to wait too long either — the official release date has been locked for 3 April 2026.
Meanwhile, Emraan Hashmi was last seen in the Telugu film 'They Call Him OG'. Also starring Pawan Kalyan, the actor played the primary antagonist in the movie.
