Ed Sheeran recently released his new album 'Play'. It embraces Indian and Persian musical influences with the recently released dance-pop track 'Symmetry'.
'Symmetry' closely follows in the footsteps of his global smash 'Sapphire'. Opening with looped vocals and traditional Indian percussion, including the dhol, bouzouki, and Tabla, the track is underpinned by a punchy, propulsive rhythm that evokes late nights and vibrant dance floors.
After concluding the chapter of his 'Mathematics' series, Sheeran is stepping into a new phase for 2025. For his new album 'Play', the English singer-songwriter has collaborated with producers and musicians from across the globe. His recent songs 'Symmetry' and 'Camera' delve deeper into the timeless sounds and themes.
'Play' reflects on Sheeran's exposure to Indian and Persian musical cultures. It also offers a surprising connection of these Asian musical influences to the Irish folk tradition through shared scales, rhythms, and melodies. The borderless musical language in the album gives it a fresh, distinctive edge.
The musician was in India a few months ago. He shot his music video 'Sapphire', for which he collaborated with singer Arijit Singh. Actor Shah Rukh Khan also featured in the song.
