Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan is stepping into a new role director for the much-anticipated Krrish 4, the next chapter in India’s iconic superhero franchise. After years of speculation and delays, veteran filmmaker and father Rakesh Roshan has confirmed that production is finally on track, with a release targeted for 2027.
Speaking about the delay, Rakesh Roshan revealed that the script was never the issue, it was the budget. “The script didn’t take a lot of time. The pressure was the budgeting. Now that we have an idea of the definite budget required for this film, we’ll be starting the film,” he said, adding that pre-production is currently underway at full speed, reports HIndustan Times.
Filming is expected to begin in mid-2026, given the extensive planning and VFX groundwork needed for such a large-scale production. “We have to be well prepared before we go on floors,” Rakesh noted.
In a surprising move earlier this year, Rakesh Roshan announced that Hrithik would take over directorial duties for Krrish 4. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he wrote:
“Duggu, 25 years ago I launched you as an actor, and today again after 25 years, you are being launched as a director by two filmmakers, Aditya Chopra and myself to take forward our most ambitious film, Krrish 4. Wish you all the success in this new avatar.”
Hrithik, who has previously never directed a film, admitted feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety. At a public event, he said, “I don’t know what to say, but I am afraid and nervous. I feel like I’m back in kindergarten. It seems I have to grow up in a whole different way all over again.”
The Krrish franchise began in 2003 with Koi… Mil Gaya, the story of Rohit Mehra and his alien friend Jadoo. It was followed by Krrish (2006), introducing India’s first mainstream superhero, and Krrish 3 (2013), which was a box office blockbuster, earning ₹374 crore globally on a ₹94 crore budget.
Now, with Hrithik at the helm and Krrish 4 officially moving forward, fans can expect a fresh vision while continuing the legacy of one of Indian cinema’s most beloved superhero sagas.
