Emmy-winning actor Jeremy Strong is reportedly in talks to portray Mark Zuckerberg in a new Facebook-centered film written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, according to The New York Times. The project marks a follow-up to Sorkin’s acclaimed 2010 screenplay The Social Network, though this time he’s also expected to take the director’s chair.
Fifteen years ago, Jesse Eisenberg earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Zuckerberg in The Social Network. Sorkin’s latest film, however, will shift focus—from Facebook’s origin story to the platform’s global impact and growing controversy in recent years.
The source material for this new installment is The Facebook Files, a 2021 investigative series by The Wall Street Journal's Jeff Horwitz. The reports uncovered internal research revealing the platform’s harmful influence on teen mental health and its role in amplifying misinformation.
Alongside Jeremy Strong, actors Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are reportedly in discussions for key roles, though casting is still in early stages and no agreements have been finalized.
Strong, who recently earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Roy Cohn in The Apprentice, is best known for his role as Kendall Roy in HBO’s Succession. He is also set to appear as Jon Favreau in the upcoming biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.
While the film is still in development, industry buzz suggests it will dive deeper into the ethical and societal questions surrounding social media power and the tech industry’s unchecked influence. Sorkin’s return to the world of Silicon Valley could offer another searing, character-driven exploration of ambition, disruption, and consequence in the digital age.
