Bangladeshi film “The Pair of White Pigeons” has been selected in the main competition section of the 21st Kazan International Film Festival. The film is directed by young filmmaker Shahriar Azad Shaumik.
“Adim”-famed director Juboraj Shamim has produced the film under the banner of ‘Dorbar Sharif’.
The festival authorities announced the names of films in various sections of the festival, including the main competition section on Tuesday.
The 21st edition of the festival will begin on 5 September. The curtain of the five-day festival will come down on September 9. Apart from “The Pair of White Pigeons”, the festival’s short film section will feature a total of 10 films from different countries including Syria, Russia, Iran, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and China.
“The Pair of White Pigeons” is the first production of Shahriar Azad Shaumik. The director said that he plans to travel to Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, in early September to attend the festival.
“I grew up in the Jhikargachha area of Jashore district. This movie is a collection of some very personal memories from my childhood. The movie can be called a juxtaposition of my own childhood in the style of a fairy tale. The movie depicts the lifestyle of the people Jashore and the complex layered emotions”, said Shaumik about the background of the movie.
Regarding the production of the movie, Juboraj Shamim said, “I actually have no contact with anyone in that sense. However, in the meantime, I met Shaumik and after seeing some of his pictures made with his mobile phone, I was quite moved and I became interested in producing the film. The fact that the project was nominated for Kazan is undoubtedly a great inspiration for Shaumik.
Child artiste Manik Das has played the main role in the movie “The Pair of White Pigeons”. In addition, SK Shahriar Habib and Md Shaheen Hossain have played two important roles.
