Since the debut of 'Mirzapur' in 2018, Ali Fazal’s portrayal of Guddu Pandit has earned him a devoted fanbase. Over three seasons, his character has undergone significant growth, becoming more layered and intense—a performance widely seen as a turning point in his acting career and a role that solidified his popularity with viewers.
Currently promoting his upcoming film 'Metro...In Dino', Fazal spoke exclusively about how he feels when audiences continue to associate him primarily with Mirzapur, despite his diverse work across various genres and platforms.
Fazal expressed no discomfort about being closely linked to the series.
“No, it doesn’t bother me. Why should it?” he said. “I’m still working on Mirzapur, and it’s only getting bigger. I’m glad people connect with it.”
He went on to explain that in different regions of the world, people tend to recognize an actor through one standout project, which becomes their reference point.
He noted that while Indian audiences relate to him as Guddu, his international followers are more familiar with his Western work.
“Each part of the world connects with different parts of my career,” he said. “That often becomes the standard by which future work is judged. I’ve experienced that too.”
Fazal acknowledged that such recognition, no matter where it comes from, is meaningful.
“At the end of the day, it’s a mix of appreciation. In a world full of anger, I don’t mind any form of recognition for the work we do,” he added.
