Indian Actor Rhea Chakraborty has said that she and her brother, Showik Chakraborty, suffered severe career setbacks following the 2020 death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
In an interview with CNBC TV18, Rhea said she stopped getting acting offers and Showik, who had secured admission to a top MBA program after scoring 96 percentile in CAT, was arrested before classes began. “By the time he came out, he had lost the first trimester—and with it, his MBA plans,” she said.
The siblings were arrested in a drug-related case linked to Rajput’s death. Rhea said Showik later struggled to find a job in the corporate sector due to the media scrutiny. “No one wanted to hire someone who had so much media scandal around them,” she said.
In May 2024, the CBI filed a closure report, clearing both Rhea and Showik of all charges in the abetment to suicide case filed by Rajput’s family. The actor was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020.
In an effort to rebuild their lives, the Chakraborty siblings launched a clothing brand, Chapter 2 Drip. The first physical store opened in Mumbai on May 24. Rhea, who returned to television last year as a gang leader on MTV Roadies, won the season but lost this year’s title to Elvish Yadav.
