On the occasion of Mother’s Day, actor and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty Kundra opened up about juggling motherhood and her many professional commitments, all while launching her latest venture—an Udupi cuisine-based restaurant.
“For me, it’s been very clear—there’s a method to the madness,” Shilpa says. “Managing work and motherhood comes naturally as a woman.”
The actress, who is mom to 12-year-old son Viaan and 5-year-old daughter Samisha, credits her mostly female team for helping her maintain a perfect balance. “They understand how to work around my schedules so I get quality time with my kids. Neither my children nor my work suffer.”
Reflecting on the changes motherhood brought into her life, Shilpa shared that the birth of her son in 2012 marked a “360-degree shift” in her priorities. reports Hindustan Times.
“I have nearly 20-21 brand associations, wellness and motivational events, and other commitments. I try to avoid month-long shoots. But if I have to, my kids join me on weekends,” she said, adding that while Viaan is growing more independent, her younger daughter still depends on her deeply.
The 49-year-old actress revealed that she stepped away from full-time work for several years after becoming a mother. “I barely worked for seven years after Viaan was born. It was a conscious decision. I returned to work with television after three years,” she recalled, quoting her spiritual mentor’s advice that “the first seven years of a child’s life are the most important.”
Now, as she continues to build her business empire, Shilpa is excited to celebrate Mother’s Day with handmade cards from Samisha and a heartfelt message from Viaan. “I love being a mother more than an actor,” she says with pride.
