Abu Dhabi is set to unveil a new eco-tourism attraction this September—an immersive butterfly garden that will house more than 10,000 butterflies across climate-controlled domes, reads a Khaleej Times post.
Located beside the National Aquarium at Al Qana, the upcoming Abu Dhabi Butterfly Garden promises a multi-sensory natural experience, blending conservation, education, and tourism in one of the UAE’s most vibrant cultural destinations.
Paul Hamilton, General Manager of the garden, emphasized that the reserve’s primary mission is not only to showcase butterflies but to replicate their natural habitats. “We’re committed to creating a safe environment that mirrors their ecosystems, allowing these delicate creatures to thrive,” he said.
The garden, he added, is designed as a nature reserve rather than just a tourist site, with the aim of fostering public understanding of biodiversity and ecosystem connectivity. “This is about inspiring people to reconnect with nature on a deeper level,” Hamilton explained.
Visitors can expect a lush, tropical setting divided into two immersive zones—Asia and the Americas. Each dome will recreate the native climates and flora of its region. The Asia dome will include species such as koi carp, parakeets, and an array of Asian insects, in addition to native butterflies fluttering freely among visitors.
The Americas dome will feature butterfly species from across North and South America, surrounded by exotic vegetation that reflects the natural diversity of those continents.
With its combination of natural wonder and educational value, the butterfly reserve adds to Abu Dhabi’s growing portfolio of interactive experiences. It follows the recent opening of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi in the Saadiyat Cultural District, another major cultural and sensory attraction.
As the UAE capital continues to invest in sustainable tourism and environmental awareness, the Butterfly Garden is poised to become a landmark destination that both entertains and enlightens.
