In the face of the student-led mass movement, dictator Sheikh Hasina left power on 5 August 2024 and fled to India, which is known as the July uprising. Director Mabrur Rashid Bannah has made a short film about the torture carried out on dissenters during Hasina’s rule. He named it “Nasta”. The short film was released on YouTube on Tuesday.
The director says that the fiction is based on the shadow of the “Aynaghor” during the rule of the previous Awami League government. Since its release, the audience has been praising director Bannah for such a courageous production; along with this, the audience have not forgotten to applaud Arosh Khan, who plays the lead role in the film.
A fragment of the student-public movement of 24 has also been highlighted in “Nasta”, where the context of the “Aynaghor” is shown for Facebook status. Then some images of torture while being held captive are clearly revealed.
About the film, Bannah said, “During the Hasina’s dictatorship, the police used to arrest many people for posting statuses on Facebook. I have talked to many of them. I have made this story based on their true stories. There are thousands of such victims who have been tortured by the dictator’s wrath.”
