Veteran Bangladeshi actor Prabir Mitra, 80, has been hospitalized in Dhaka due to severe health issues, including oxygen deficiency. Despite initial treatments, his condition has worsened over the past two weeks, with decreasing blood and platelet counts. His family is now seeking urgent government help for advanced medical care.
Mitra, who initially received intensive care treatment, was later moved to a cabin but has since been transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) as his health continued to deteriorate.
Prabir Mitra’s son Sifat Islam voiced his frustration over the lack of support from both the government and the Film Artistes' Association, despite their attempts to get in touch. He appealed to the government for immediate assistance for his father, Prabir Mitra, stressing his significant contributions to the film industry.
Prabir Mitra, born in 1943 in Chandina, Cumilla, developed a passion for acting at a young age, performing in school plays such as Rabindranath Tagore's "Dakghar."
Mitra made his film debut in 1969 with "Jolchhobi," directed by H Akbar, although it was not released until January 1, 1971. While he initially played leading roles, Mitra achieved lasting success as a character actor, winning audiences over with his depth, versatility, and natural talent for portraying complex characters. His memorable performances in films like "Titash Ekti Nadir Naam," "Jibon Trishna," "Fariyad," "Rokto Shopoth," "Charitrohin," "Angaar," and "Fakir Majnu Shah" are considered milestones in cinema.
