Pakistani music legend Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is set to perform in Dhaka at a charity concert aimed at helping with the treatment and rehabilitation of those injured in the July uprising. The event will take place at the Army Stadium in Dhaka on December 21.
The tickets for the much anticipated concert are now available online for the audience through the event platform "Spirits of July."
Tickets for the concert were made available to the public on the Get Set Rock online platform on Monday night. The prices are 10,000 taka for VIP tickets, 4,500 taka for front row tickets, and 2,500 taka for general tickets.
The final lineup for the concert was also revealed on the same day. Along with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, local bands Artcell, Chirkut, Ashes, Aftermath, and rap artists Sejan, Hannan, and Silsilia will take the stage. The event will also include a graffiti exhibition on the July uprising and a stage play.
On the afternoon of November 29, a press conference was held at Madhu's Canteen of Dhaka University, where a written statement was shared. It stated, "To support the families of those who were killed and the injured in the July-August mass movement, a group of students from Dhaka University is organizing a charity concert titled 'Echoes of Resolution' on December 21 through a platform named 'Spirits of July'."
“All the proceeds from this concert will be used to support the families of those killed and injured during the movement, as a way to stand by them. In this regard, the funds will be donated to the "July Martyrs Memorial Foundation," an organization working with the families of the martyrs and injured during the July massacre and the student uprising. On November 12, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the "Spirits of July" platform and the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation regarding this matter.”
The statement also mentions that a contract was signed between Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and "Spirits of July" on November 28.As part of the agreement, he has pledged to perform at the concert free of charge. This means his performance fee will be donated to the families of the injured and deceased.
