State Minister for the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRDC) Mir Shahe Alam has said the government is planning to begin local government elections from September or October this year and complete five tiers of local government polls within the next year.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Bogura on Tuesday regarding the appointment of an administrator for the newly formed Bogura City Corporation.
Replying to a question about the election schedule, the state minister said the sequence of the elections would be determined depending on budget availability.
He said the local government election process would begin with Union Parishad elections, followed gradually by polls requiring larger budgets.
