For new passport applications, there will be no need for police verification. The passport will be granted based on the information validated online from the national ID card database.
Along with this, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent a summary to the Chief Advisor on Monday, mentioning four instructions. The press wing of the Chief Advisor has shared this information.
The summary outlines three additional instructions:
For citizens living abroad and minors, a new passport will be issued based on online birth registration verification instead of police verification;
In cases of passport renewal, if there is any change in the basic information of the existing passport, it will be updated using the national ID card details;
When the passport application information is verified with the national ID card database or birth registration database, it will be deemed to fulfill the required investigation under Section 5(2) of the Bangladesh Passport Order, 1973.
The summary states that, based on a positive police report, a regular passport is currently issued within 12 days, and an express delivery passport is issued within three working days. However, it has been reported that applicants face inconvenience due to unnecessary verification of documents in police verification.
The Ministry of Home Affairs informs that currently, on average, 25,000 to 28,000 passports are printed daily in the passport offices of the country and abroad. More than one crore (10 million) Bangladeshis are working in various countries around the world, and 30,000 people travel abroad for work every month.
