Media Reform Commission Chief Kamal Ahmed on Tuesday said that the dignity of journalists cannot be ensured without their financial security.
"Media reform cannot take place without financial security. Without ensuring financial stability, quality media cannot be guaranteed. Economic stability is essential for establishing an independent, objective, and robust media. Journalists will be able to carry out their professional duties freely if they are assured of financial security," he said while exchanging views with journalists at the Zila Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Mymensingh.
Media Reform Commission members Mostafa Sabuj and Akther Hossain Khan, among others, were present at the meeting.
Kamal Ahmed said, "We will submit the report within the stipulated time. However, journalists must put pressure on the government to implement the recommendations. If journalists do not insist on this issue, no reforms will be implemented."
He added that a national media survey was conducted from January 1 to 7 to gather opinions from readers, viewers, and listeners about the media.
The survey collected feedback from about 45,000 households across the country.
"We will make recommendations for reform based on the information from this survey," he added.
