Bangladesh missions abroad on Monday celebrated the 54th Victory Day amid great festivity and fervour, paying rich tributes to the freedom fighters who embraced martyrdom to liberate the country from the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971.
Officials and staff of the high commissions and embassies, led by heads of the missions, in different countries across the globe also paid homage to the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising, according to messages received in Dhaka.
Embassy of Bangladesh in Rome, Italy, embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan, Bangladesh Embassy in Manila, Philippines, Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo, Japan, Consulate General of Bangladesh in Hong Kong and Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia celebrated the day with due dignity.
The missions celebrated the day with elaborate programmes, including hoisting of the national flags, observing one-minute silence in memories of the martyrs of the Liberation War and the victims' of the recent student-people mass upsurge, holding discussions and cultural events, reading out the messages of the President, the Chief Adviser and the Foreign Adviser and offering special prayers seeking divine blessings for the martyrs of the Liberation War and July-August mass uprising.
