The home ministry on Sunday has issued a stern warning to illegal foreign nationals in Bangladesh.
A ministry notification reads the information, where the foreign nationals who are living in the country illegally have been asked to obtain legality as soon as possible.
The notice said: “There are allegations from various sources that many foreign nationals are staying in Bangladesh illegally and are working in various institutions. Foreign nationals who are staying or working in Bangladesh illegally are requested to immediately obtain legality along with the necessary documents to stay or work in Bangladesh. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against them.”
Earlier this morning, after a planning meeting ahead of Christmas and Thirty-First Night, home adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that illegal foreigners will not be allowed to stay in Bangladesh.
He said: “A notice will be issued regarding illegal foreigners. However, he also said that there is no information about how many illegal foreigners are in Bangladesh.”
