Jahangirnagar University (JU) is going to held its 14th Butterfly Fair on Friday, with the aim of conserving butterflies and increasing public awareness.
The convener of the fair and professor of the department of Zoology of Jahangirnagar University, Dr. Md. Monowar Hossain, confirmed the matter to the media.
In this regard, Professor Monowar Hossain said this year's Butterfly Fair will start at 9:30 am at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium of the university. In addition to the colorful rally like other years, the day-long fair will also have various events including a ‘Butterfly Painting Competition’ (for children and teenagers), a butterfly and nature quiz competition, a butterfly photography exhibition, a butterfly photography competition, a butterfly documentary exhibition, butterfly kite flying, and a Fusion debate competition. In addition, there will be a puppet show for children in the courtyard in front of the auditorium.
Organized by the Entomology Branch of the Department of Zoology, the fair will be held to recognize the overall contribution to butterfly conservation by Sabuj Chakma, the founder of the forest and nature organization 'Plantation for Nature.’ Butterfly Young Enthusiast Award will be given to Md. Sabbir Ahmed, a student of the Department of Zoology of Jagannath University, on the occasion.
'Cute' is the title sponsor of this year's fair. The Prakriti O Jibon Foundation, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Aranyak Foundation and Bangladesh Forest Department are the associate organizers of the event jointly.
