Today(Wednesday) marks the 60th birthday of BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman. Born on November 20, 1965, Tarique Rahman is the eldest son of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. His nickname is Pino.
Amid the political landscape shaped by the 1/11 government, Tarique Rahman moved to London in 2008, where he has since lived with his family. His political journey began as a member of the Bogura committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), founded by Ziaur Rahman. At just 22, he became a member of the Gabtali Thana BNP in Bogura in 1988. During the 2001 elections, he actively campaigned nationwide alongside his mother. On March 19, 2016, Tarique Rahman was elected Senior Vice Chairman of the BNP during its sixth council. Since Khaleda Zia's imprisonment (she is now released), he has been serving as the party's acting chairman.
No celebrations on his birthday
BNP has reiterated that no events will be held to mark Tarique Rahman's birthday. Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi reminded party leaders and activists of this directive through a press release yesterday. The statement emphasized that no celebrations would be allowed on November 20 and warned that strict organizational actions would be taken against those violating this instruction.
