Labor Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain stated that no worker can be dismissed in violation of the law and announced, “The labor law will be amended by March.”
He added, “Maternity leave for female workers will be increased to 120 days, and every factory must have a daycare center.”
He made these remarks at a press conference held at the Ministry of Labor in the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon.
Asif Mahmud said, “Owners who are not paying workers are being detained, and their national ID cards and passports are being seized to prevent them from fleeing abroad.”
He continued, “We are not trying to solve problems by attacking workers. Instead, we are encouraging owners to pay wages. However, coming up with an instant solution is a complex matter.”
He mentioned that he took charge of the Ministry of Labor and Employment under very difficult circumstances.
The Labor Advisor said, “We are improving slowly but surely. A joint agreement has been signed between owners and workers on 18 points.”
He further stated, “We will not do superficial work by just holding inauguration ceremonies and taking photos. We are constantly monitoring the facilities provided to workers.”
