Sarjis Alam, general secretary of July Memorial Foundation on Friday said universities can’t be a place for practicing politics and students union election must be held instead of partisan politics.
He said, “We will create our representatives, not leaders. In the last 16 years, whenever someone has been a leader, he or he/she just boast of them. We don't want that kind of leader. Universities cannot be a place to practice party politics. If you want to create the leadership in North Bengal then the universities should hold student council elections every year.”
He said this at the 'student rally' on Thursday afternoon at Dinajpur Haji Mohammad Science and Technology University held on the topic of 'students' meeting to uphold the July Revolution and to rebuild the state. Anti-discrimination student movement convener Hasnat Abdullah and coordinator Tariqul Islam and others were present at the same event.
