Department of Environment conducted operations across the country against factories producing banned polythene shopping bags on Sunday. In Kamrangirchar, Dhaka, the gas, electricity, and water supply of a factory was disconnected as it was producing banned polythene.
Thirteen mobile courts were involved in the operation. 26 institutions were fined a total of Tk 180500. Also, one truck and around 746 kilograms of polythene were seized.
Meanwhile, in a meeting with environmental organizations at the Bangladesh Secretariat, the Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced that operations would soon begin against illegal battery-breaking and lead-melting factories. She also emphasized that the government will continue to take comprehensive steps to prevent all types of pollution in order to protect the environment.
