The High Court has asked the state whether a commission has been formed to reinvestigate the motives behind the Pilkhana massacre.
Today, On Sunday, a bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury inquired about the matter from the state’s counsel. The petitioners' lawyers stated that an order would be issued on this matter on Tuesday.
According to the lawyers, people want to know why 57 army officers were killed. Even after the formation of the interim government, no effective steps were taken.
After the events of Pilkhana, a national investigation commission was formed. One of the members of this commission was Retired Brigadier General Hasan Nasir. He said, “At that time, only a superficial investigation took place as the former government intervened. I was dismissed from the army as I protested it.”
He further said that former Army Chief Moeen U Ahmed made incoherent statements in order to avoid responsibility.
The Pilkhana Tragedy took place on February 25, 2009. After a massive win in the 2008 election, Awami League came to power and the tragedy happened during Awami League’s era.
74 people died, including 57 army officers, in that incident and it was marked as one of the darkest moments in the history of Bangladesh.
