Sohel Taj, son of Tajuddin Ahmad and the former State Minister for Home Affairs, has announced a program with three demands, including the official observance of Jail Killing Day.
He stated that he would submit a memorandum with these demands to the Chief Advisor of the interim government on November 3.
On Friday, he informed his followers through his Facebook post.
“November 3 is Jail Killing Day. It has been 49 years, yet the four heroes who led the great Liberation War to victory and gave us an independent, sovereign nation called Bangladesh have not received official recognition from the state. This is unacceptable!”
He summarized his three specific demands and they are-
1. Since the first government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was formed on April 10, 1971, through the Declaration of Independence, this day should be officially declared as the ‘Republic Day’.
2. Jail Killing Day should be declared a ‘National Day of Mourning’ and officially observed by the state.
3. The names, contributions, and biographies of the four national leaders, along with all the civilian and military organizers, directors, immortal martyrs, and valiant freedom fighters of the Liberation War, should be included in textbooks and syllabi at all levels with proper respect, detailing the accurate and complete history of the Liberation War.
“I feel that my demands are fair and logical which represent the heartfelt wishes of everyone who upholds the spirit of independence and the Liberation War. To achieve this goal, my next program will be to assemble in front of the Intercontinental Hotel at 3:30 PM on November 3 and later march to present a memorandum to the Chief Advisor,” stated Taj Sohel on his Facebook post.
He further stated, “I will start walking from in front of the Intercontinental Hotel towards the State Guest House Jamuna at 4 PM. I invite everyone who believes in the spirit of independence, the Liberation War, and anti-discrimination to join this gathering.”
